Asian Carriers Recruiting for Airline Pilots Nov.15, 2009
Airline pilot job hiring is not expected to liven up in the U.S. until the economy shows steady recovery. But there is hiring activity among carriers in the Asia-Pacific region, which is showing the first signs of a turnaround. All Nippon Airways, Korean Air and Shenzhen Airlines will be eyeing recruits at the FltOps.com/Flight Safety Foundation Pilot Safety Symposium and Job Fair to be held at New York LaGuardia Airport on Nov. 21. Airline pilots and pilot-wannabes who have registered for the fair are reflecting a wide range of experience—from 201 hr. to 27,091 hr. total flight time—for an average of 5,720 hr. Shenzhen, which requires 3,000 hr. total time for captains, will be conducting on-site interviews for Airbus A320, Boeing 737NG and Embraer 190 flight crews.

JetAirways has wet-leased 3 B-777s to Turkish Airlines and 4 B-777s to Gulf Air in Bahrain. That leaves 3 B-777s (soon to be 4 when they take possession of a new delivery) for the Jet Airways routes (DEL-LHR and BOM-LHR) which will be flown strictly by Indian pilots. When the wet-leases end (supposedly in July for Turkish, October for Gulf) they will convert to dry leases and all of the expats will be terminated.
JET AIRWAYS IS THE INDIAN CARRIER THAT HAS ABOUT 10 777s.

Flight Options announces 105 temporary layoffs
Fractional jet ownership company Flight Options announced plans this week to lay off 105 pilots, maintenance workers and office staff amid declining demand for corporate and luxury flight services. The layoffs follow two previous rounds of indefinite furloughs made in January and November, but the Cleveland-area company said it "absolutely" plans to call the employees back to work when demand picks up again.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
<<<Most other countries have changed to age 65. Middle Eastern carriers and Japanese carriers allow flying up to 65. Problem is now even they are cutting back. JAL is laying off 150 expat 747 pilots the end of this month. Some of those guys have been there 17 years, but foreigners are the first to go. Chinese airlines have cut back considerably compared to last year, but most are still hiring at a slower rate.>>>
Things aren't real rosy in the pilot employment areas.

Subject: fwd from Dave Stolp...job opportunity
Thanks to Bob Engelman for this intel.
Kalitta Air is currently hiring pilots.
Just a few of the details of note:
They employ "Home Basing," that is your clock starts when they buy you a ticket from YOUR
"home airport" to join an airplane or crew somewhere in the world. There is no central base.
Starting position is 747 F/O but upgrade is expected within 12-18 Months. (probably much closer to 12 or less with all the new
aircraft coming.
They own 19 747 classics (mostly -200 with -Q and -R Engines). Just signed a deal for (2) 747-400's coming in May of this year
and perhaps 5 more within 2 more years. This is on top of a deal for (2) 747-200's signed just days before.
Lots of guys from Cargo 360 pilots have come to Kalitta. More Delta guys being interviewed for the April class right now.
There are 79 crews and they need nearly double that to 120 by the end of the year just to keep up with current flying.
They are 50% +/- scheduled cargo and the rest "ad Hoc" or on call charter.
To check the scheduled runs and typical flying go to www.Kalittaair.com and click on schedules.
For example, they serve Newark-Bahrain, daily, Newark-Amsterdam, Santiago-Miami, Bogota-Miami, Hong
Kong-Anchorage-Chicago, Honolulu , Los Angeles , etc.
They hire over age 60, they really like LCA experience and overwater time. Currency is not important and no need to be rated on the 747.
They fully train and type for the operation.
It's not the old Kalitta of the 90's (of AIA and Kitty Hawk fame). That went bust and Kalitta re-bought the certificate
back in 2000, purchased two 747's for cash and has never looked back.
It is a class act with a brand new training building, the best classic simulator in the world, top notch instruction and a great flight management department.
They are hiring now for an April class and classes for the rest of 2008.
Contact person is the Chief Pilot, Captain Paul Bishop and the number is (734) 484-0088.
Thanks for getting the word out.
Captain Michael Messmore, ret.
767ER-JFK
Ted Larusson, retiring RUPA Editor passed this:
Looking for a job?
To anybody able to get this out.
Morris Wiegan, a RUPA member, has a friend: Paul Goldsmith, that needs quite a few "Simulator Instructors" and perhaps
King Air instructors to train upwards of 1700 new pilots per year. The contract is with China Airlines. The students will speak english.
The airport is Griffith, IN. This is 10 miles south of Gary, and 40 miles from Chicago. A B-737 simulator is in the plans.
The wages will be about $45,000.00; I don't know how it is figured.
Morris Wiegan can be reached at 219-462-8063
Paul Goldsmith, the owner, and according to Morris, a race car driver that won the Daytona (500), when it was only 160 miles.
He's 83 yrs. He can be reached at (I think) Goldsmith Nichols; 8-5 central time. 219-924-6817
I hope some people can take advantage of this. I am not liable for errors.
March 26,2008
I got a call from Russell Thal, Executive V.P. of Baltia Airlines; a new U.S. 121 Flag airline. Their initial destination will be JFK-St. Petersburg-JFK on a refurbished 747-200 (3 class) w/Upperdeck Lounge. They will be the only non-stop between JFK and St. Petersburg. In about six months, other 747s will fly to Minsk and Riga, from and to JFK, etc.
Mr. Thal is in need of a Senior Pilot, with experience.
It might be something, one of our newly-retired pilots could do. Put this out if you can.

They are having screening session in Mumbai, April 8th, 9th and 10th.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to be scheduled for screening and if so, please ensure to send me all your updated
documents and Qform (attached).

Need a job? Under 65? Got 747-400 type rating?
http://www.familyairlines.com/ careers_with_family.htm_
I see that Family Airlines is now advertising for pilots. I think they are
a little premature. No airplanes (and only two to be found so far), and they
just applied with the DOT last week for their certificate of operation. No
one knows how long that will take -- maybe 4 months to a year.
But I guess the CEO is concerned about training times. I figure if you've
flown a 747-400 in the last couple of years or so, about all you'd need is a
warm up or two and a PC, but others are telling me it will take a full transition
school. If so, why require 747-400 type rating? What does that save in training?
Anyway, take a look. I can tell you the salaries for pilots, considering
EVERYONE will be a 'new hire' on 'probation' (if Family has a probation at
all!), will be much more than you might suspect! I was surprised! They asked me
how much I wanted for a salary. I gave them a number. Then they told me
what they were going to pay 1st year Captains. Oh oh.. I Underbid! But I'm in
'management' (got something like the Hart Langer or Ed Methot job, the way I
see it.) So maybe I can fix that. I'm getting NO PAY until the airline
starts to fly, so the work is kinda commensurate with the pay for now.
Yeah, and I've GOT to make a better video and find another Captain hat
emblem! I've got some old generic epaulets somewhere around the house. I taped
over United in the hat emblem and wrote "Family Airlines" on it but you can't
see that. Too small. The price (zero) was right for the video, however.
Some company wanted $1000 to make a video for us, but I just whipped that one
out in my living room. Only 59 seconds. Fortunately. Goes quick. you can see
my eyes reading the script I taped to the camera tripod. Pretty lame, huh?

Cort,
I've not talked to anyone that has taken either a 777 or 400 with Air India thru Rishworth.
I have e-mailed from a couple of 737 guys with Kingfisher, though. They seem OK with their positions.
I was talking with a (real) Air India RJ pilot last evening at CAE in Denver. His opinion was to stay away from Rishworth and approach Air India directly
(I'll try to get info on how to do that). He also said that Kingfisher is a good solid company..same owner as Kingfisher Beer and to be wary of Indigo.
I heard, from an unimpeachable source (that I can't name-he is a designee) some real horror stories about Air India maintenance on the -400 and about
the quality of the right-seaters. Both of those, and the lousy pay on the -400 from Rishworth kept me away.
Gordie
Thanks for the input Gordie.
I am actually going to SEA tomorrow to chat with Rishworth. I am very happy with my current job at XOJET, but just want to hear what they have to say so I can intelligently pass on any intel to those left behind, and satisfy my own curiosity.
I seriously doubt I would leave my current job as it is a great place to work.
I will give a report on the findings, upon my return.

Cort

Ladies and Gents,
I was recently contacted by retired United Captain Rich Ford who currently serves as a fleet manager for Flight Training International. There are a number of contract positions available for pilots nationwide serving as simulator instructors in several aircraft types.
Presently, the corporation is in search of instructors in the Atlanta area who are qualled in 737 NG (737-600 and above) or those who possess an Airbus 320 rating. They are also in search of pilots in the Miami area who are qualled on the B-777, A-320, B-757/767, or MD-11 as well as pilots in the Minneapolis area who are qualled on the B-747-400 or A-320 aircraft.
Simulator instructor experience is highly desirable; being current and qualled on equipment is important albeit not a mandatory requisite for application. If you are interested in applying for any of these positions, please contact Rich Ford at Rford@fti.com for additional information.
Sorry folks...pilot error...a typo on the email address. The correct email address is Rford@fti737.com.
If anyone else out there is aware of additional job information, please forward to me for dissemination. We're all in this together.
Thanks,
Dan

Dear Friends,
The FAA is looking for help at the Chicago Center. They want some
retired pilots to work for the Washington Consulting Group that
provides training for new air traffic controllers at the Chicago Air
Route Traffic Control Center in Aurora, IL. Right now the plan is to
hire for full time positions, but if enough pilots were interested,
part time situations could be worked out. The specific job
description is attached as well as is the contact person. They would
work in the training lab at the Center and have a good time doing it.
The pay is only $19/hour but it may be good for someone who is
looking for something to do and earn a little extra money while doing
it. The Center is a very interesting place to work.
The attached file gives all the details of the job (see appended info).

Received this e mail from Steve Haupt, a friend, who used to be associated with Orbis International. He now runs a small airline out of Subic Bay (Cubi Point) in the Philippines. If interested drop him a note. With this kind of income you could afford a very nice house complete with servants over there.

If any one is interested in working full time, Jetblue is looking for
instructors. The job is in Orlando and requires you to either live
near by, or have a commuter pad. It is NOT commutable. Instructors
get 12 days off a month and the starting pay is 70K. Previous A320
time OR instructor time is required (both is preferable). If you have
any questions, you can reach me at JohnCMoore@cfl. rr.com.

Connie,
Would you please send this to your big list of people, both retirees and current UAL employees. They are aggressively looking for people in Chicago as the guy who was working for them has gotten ill.
Hope you're still enjoying retirement. For me, life has never been better.

Just received a phone call from the FAA at Atlantic City Technical
Center. They are building simulators under a contract and need a pilot
with recent experience to help them with the certification of
standards based on the customer contract. They will have a 737, an
Airbus and a Embraer. All work will be accomplished at Atlantic City
FAA Tech Center.
Job responsibilities would be to work with the Aeronautical Engineers
to identify and correct any deficiencies:
1. Procedural Duties (I believe S.O.P.'s)
2. Technical adviser to the engineers to correct any errors in the
systems interface
3. Act as Simulator pilots to ensure correct S.O.P and phraseology.
I did not discuss monies but suspect this could be a per diem contract
type job based on your availability except that you will need to
commit for one or two three day periods to be available for the ISO
Audit team.
Or this could be a more permanent job that would offer benefits based
on minimum hours worked per week. If you have any interest or know
anyone who has recent experience in mid to large jet aircraft please
email me and I will discus what little I know. This could be a great
opportunity to get a foot in the door for future projects.
Wishing you well in 2007.
